Booth Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibition entitled “Fourth Wall,” on view at 325 W. 38th Street, NYC, NY 10018. The opening reception is on Saturday, August 13th at 7pm and the exhibit will be on view through Saturday, September 10th.
While the fourth wall is originally a theatrical concept, it extends to literature and art as well and can be used anywhere that a narrative is told. Each piece in “Fourth Wall” evokes a raw, powerful emotion that is clearly reaching out to the viewer with the aim of breaking the invisible barrier between artists and spectators. Ultimately the barrier crumbles under the weight of intricate compositions and thought-provoking concepts with stories aimed at portraying humanity itself. The artists have created scenes of violence or distressing awkwardness to highlight the fact that you, as the onlooker, have no power to change the events. The figures in the works are either set apart and looking directly at the audience or daring you to take a step into their world and participate. With this exhibition, the artists are attempting to reveal the truth about the roots of humanity’s history and recurrent behaviors in the light of current cultural dynamics and the psychology of modern society.
“Fourth Wall”, curated by Booth Gallery Director Casey Gleghorn, will feature works by Mike Cockrill, Christopher Gullander, Mercedes Helnwein, Aaron Johnson, Will Kurtz, Adam Miller, David Molesky, Sophia Narrett, Odd Nerdrum, Ekaterina Panikanova, Lou Ros, Richard Scott, Levan Songulashvili, Ben Tolman and Barnaby Whitfield.
